In a gesture of solidarity with the people of Iran amidst the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, Bangladesh on Wednesday handed over emergency medical supplies to the Iranian Ambassador in Dhaka.
Kabir M Ashraf Alam, secretary general of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, presented the humanitarian assistance to Ambassador Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi at a ceremony held at the Iranian Embassy.
Representing the Government of Bangladesh, Md Nazrul Islam, secretary (Bilateral) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Md Humayun Kabir, director general of the West Asia Wing, were also in attendance.
The medical supplies were procured following a donation of Tk1 crore made by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society on 6 April. The funds were specifically allocated for the purchase of emergency medicine and medical equipment to treat those injured in the current Middle East situation.
During the event, Nazrul Islam expressed profound concern and sorrow over the extensive loss of life and property caused by the conflict.
He reaffirmed that Bangladesh consistently stands for peace and voiced hope that the crisis would be resolved through diplomatic efforts to establish permanent stability in the region.
Ambassador Jalil Rahimi expressed his deep gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for the humanitarian initiative.
He noted the deep and friendly relations existing between Bangladesh and Iran, thanking the people of Bangladesh for their sympathy and sincere support during this difficult time.
