The Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal hosted an iftar and dinner reception for members of the diplomatic community at a local hotel in Kathmandu on Tuesday, bringing together diplomats, government officials and representatives from various international organisations.
The event was attended by 18 ambassadors and three heads of mission, along with the Chief of Protocol of Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomats, former ambassadors, business leaders and representatives from the Muslim Commission of Nepal.
Bangladesh’s envoy to Nepal, Md Shafiqur Rahman, welcomed the guests and extended warm Ramadan greetings while reflecting on the values and spirit of the holy month.
He highlighted the importance of compassion, solidarity and mutual understanding, noting that such gatherings provide an opportunity to strengthen bonds among the diplomatic community.
In his remarks, the ambassador emphasised the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Nepal, and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to further deepening bilateral relations. He expressed optimism about expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, connectivity, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
The envoy also congratulated the government and people of Nepal on holding peaceful and successful elections, describing the process as an important milestone in the country’s democratic journey. He expressed Bangladesh’s interest in working closely with Nepal’s new government to further strengthen ties between the two friendly nations.
Referring to Bangladesh’s own recent political developments, Ambassador Rahman highlighted the priorities of the newly formed government, including institutional reforms, strengthening democratic practices and expanding engagement with regional and international partners.
He also briefed the gathering on various initiatives aimed at building a more inclusive and prosperous Bangladesh, guided by the principles of good governance, rule of law and sustainable development under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The reception concluded with a dinner featuring a mix of international cuisine alongside Bangladeshi seafood dishes and traditional sweets, offering guests a taste of Bangladesh’s rich culinary heritage.
Among the distinguished guests were ambassadors and chargés d’affaires from countries including the United States, Russia, Germany, France, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Norway, Finland, Egypt, India and Myanmar.
