The Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar launched its e‑passport services on Tuesday.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Myanmar Md Monwar Hossain was present as the chief guest, while Md Shams Akhter, deputy project director of the e‑Passport and Automated Border Control Management Project; and Israt Jahan, engineer and deputy secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, attended as special guests.
Officials involved in passport operations, embassy staff, and Bangladeshi nationals living in Myanmar were also present.
At the event, Shams Akhter delivered a brief speech on the e‑passport project and discussed its technology and proper usage.
In his address as chief guest, Ambassador Monwar paid tribute to all freedom fighters of the Liberation War and expressed deep respect for those martyred during the July–August 2024 student‑led uprising.
He thanked the Department of Immigration and Passports for its active role in delivering e‑passport services to expatriates under the guidance of the chief adviser.
The ambassador said, “With the introduction of e‑passports, a new horizon has opened for providing modern, secure, and efficient services to expatriate Bangladeshis. Immigration and passport‑related procedures have become easier and safer for them.”
He also expressed gratitude to all ministries and departments for their sincere cooperation in implementing the e‑passport operations in Yangon.
Members of the Bangladeshi community expressed their excitement at receiving e‑passport services and extended heartfelt thanks to the Bangladesh government and the embassy.
The chief guests then formally announced the inauguration of the e‑passport operations at the Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar and handed over e‑passport delivery slips to expatriate Bangladeshis.
Later, the chief guest and other dignitaries inspected the newly installed e‑passport system at the embassy.
