Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu observed “July Shaheed Dibosh-2026” today with due solemnity and fervour, commemorating the supreme sacrifices made by the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising 2024.
The day’s programme commenced with a recitation from the holy Quran, followed by the reading of messages from the hon’ble president and hon’ble prime minister regarding the significance of the occasion.
Documentaries highlighting the context and importance of the July Movement were screened, concluding with a special prayer for the departed souls of the martyrs.
A discussion session featured participation from members of the Bangladeshi community, students studying in Nepal, representatives of research institutions, and youth representatives from Nepal, read a press release.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Shafiqur Rahman paid deep tribute to the July fighters who ousted an authoritarian regime through a 36-day long programme.

The Ambassador described the uprising as an outburst of long-standing public anger against corruption, discrimination, enforced disappearances, and fascist misrule.
He particularly lauded the role of Gen Z students and the youth as “change agents” who shaped the nation’s democratic and economic aspirations. He expressed hope that the spirit of the uprising would continue to inspire the pursuit of justice and inclusive development.
Other distinguished speakers included Pramod Jaiswal, PhD, Research Director of the Nepal Institute for Int’l Cooperation and Engagement (NIICE); Dr Foyasal Khan, founder and CEO of the Dhaka-based think-tank Policy House; and Tanvir Ahmed Tarafder, Director of the SAARC Secretariat.
The event was attended by approximately 80 participants, who were later served an early dinner featuring traditional Bangladeshi cuisine.
