Two Bangladeshi films will be represented at the upcoming Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF), with two short films earning selection for the event’s ninth edition in Kathmandu this April.
Shahriar Azad’s ‘The Pair of White Pigeons’ and Fakhrul Alam’s ‘Memories and Miseries’ have been chosen for screening at the festival, which runs from April 2 to 6 and draws independent filmmakers from across South Asia and beyond.
Azad’s film is rooted in personal memory and rural experience. Inspired by his childhood in Jhikargacha, Jashore, The Pair of White Pigeons uses the image of two pigeons to evoke village life, nature and the emotional textures of growing up away from the city. The short stars SK Shahriar and Shaheen Hossain.
In contrast, Memories and Miseries takes an experimental approach. Fakhrul Alam’s film explores a soul suspended between heaven and earth, revisiting two contrasting lives. One follows a writer in search of human stories and emotional language, while the other centres on a priest shaped by war and years of listening to pain, guilt and confession. The film features performances by Sharif Siraj and Khalid Hasan.
