Bangladesh Auto Industries Limited (BAIL) has launched three electric vehicle (EV) brands and revealed their much-awaited prototypes at the Dhaka Auto Series 2026, with commercial sales planned within three months.
The homegrown company introduced its four-wheel passenger and cargo vehicles brand MEV, motorbike brand Glyder, and three-wheeler brand Otomax at the three-day auto expo in the capital.
The move places BAIL across multiple EV segments as rising fuel costs and demand for cost-efficient mobility reshape consumer preferences in Bangladesh.
It invested around Tk1,500 crore to build its EV manufacturing plant at the Mirsharai Economic Zone in Chattogram to produce EVs locally and reduce dependence on imports.
It said it is the first automobile manufacturer in Bangladesh capable of developing and manufacturing EV platforms and vehicle bodies locally. Platforms are the core structure of the vehicles.
The company at the auto expo showcased its developed models under each brand, saying the vehicles meet international standards while remaining affordable for domestic consumers.
BAIL Managing Director Mir Masud Kabir said customer support and reliability are central to the company’s strategy.
“For us, the most important thing is providing customer support, and we will do our utmost to ensure the highest level of service and reliability,” he said.
“We are trying to offer customers good-quality products at a very affordable price,” he told TIMES.
“We are preparing to play a significant role in developing the EV ecosystem nationwide,” he added.
BAIL said all vehicles will come with a five-year warranty and dedicated after-sales service to build consumer confidence in EV adoption.
Glyder and Otomax models will feature removable batteries to ease charging and reduce downtime for users.
Pre-booking will begin soon, ahead of the planned commercial rollout.
The company expects policy support in the national budget in June 2026, which could lower production costs and make locally manufactured EVs more affordable for consumers.
Dhaka Auto Series opened on Thursday at the International Convention City Bashundhara, bringing together global and local players. More than 70 companies from over 10 countries are participating, occupying around 200 booths.
Organised by CEMS-Global USA, the exhibition will run until 7pm on Saturday.
