State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin on Tuesday said that the spirit of Pohela Baishakh brings people of all religions and communities together and strengthens the country’s secular values.

He said the celebration is not only a formality but also a strong expression of culture, heritage and harmony.

He made the remarks as chief guest at a Pohela Baishakh programme held at DC Hill in Chattogram.

The minister said the concept of building a “rainbow nation” is reflected in such celebrations. Participation of people from all levels of society has created a vibrant cultural environment, which deserves appreciation.

He added that when an event goes beyond formality and is presented with sincerity and collective effort, it becomes more meaningful and heart-touching. He praised the organisers for creating a diverse and colourful programme through combined efforts on and behind the stage after a long time.

The programme featured rallies, recitations, dance and music, highlighting Bangla culture and heritage.

He also extended New Year greetings and said this spirit can help build a developed, prosperous and progressive Bangladesh.

Chattogram-9 MP Abu Sufian, Divisional Commissioner Ziauddin and CMP Commissioner Hasan Md Shaukat Ali, along with other officials, were present at the event.
