Sabila Nur has said that challenging audience expectations and embracing diverse roles remain central to her approach to acting, as she continues to receive positive responses for her portrayal of Mira in the film ‘Rockstar’.
The film, directed by Azman Rusho, marks Sabila’s second on-screen pairing with actor Shakib Khan. Her performance as Mira has drawn favourable reactions from both audiences and critics.
Speaking about her approach to selecting roles, Sabila said she has always been drawn to characters that allow her to break away from established perceptions.’
“I always want to work in unconventional roles. When I did ‘Tandob’, audiences did not expect to see me in the song ‘Lichur Bagane’. I tried to break that image and do something new. In ‘Bonolota Express’, I also appeared in a different kind of role, which audiences appreciated. Even after its release on OTT platforms, the film continues to receive a good response. In Rockstar, I have appeared in yet another new character. My audience will continue to find something new from me in the future. The fact that audiences have liked Mira is one of the biggest achievements of my life.”
Sabila said the team had limited time to prepare for the role, with only two to three weeks available before filming.
“If I talk about Mira’s journey, we did not have much time to prepare. We had around two to three weeks. But within that short period, the combined efforts of the director, cinematographer, art department, and especially the costume, makeup and hair teams made it possible to bring Mira to the screen. I want to dedicate Mira’s entire journey to the team,” she said.
She added that viewers would not be able to tell that the character had been developed within such a short timeframe. “I gave my best to make the character believable,” she said.
In recent years, Sabila has attracted attention for taking on a series of contrasting roles across television dramas, OTT productions and cinema. She believes an actor’s greatest challenge is the ability to continually reinvent themselves.
The actress also spoke about working with Shakib Khan, describing the experience as positive.
“Sharing the screen with Shakib Bhai is always a pleasure. He is very dedicated and disciplined. As a co-actor, he is extremely supportive. He always helps create a comfortable working environment for fellow performers,” she said.
