Ashna Habib Bhabna, once a familiar face on television, has remained firm in her decision to stop acting in dramas, a choice she made six years ago.
The actress recently signed another film and returned to Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar two days ago after completing the shooting of a song for the project.
“We have only finished shooting the song. The rest of the filming is still pending and will begin soon. This time, audiences will see Bhabna in a film filled with dance and music,” she said, declining to reveal further details due to restrictions from the production company.
Bhabna said five of her films are currently awaiting release. Japito Jibon is expected to hit cinemas first.
She will soon begin dubbing for Dhaka 1205, previously titled Charulata. She is also busy with Payel.
“I want to become everyone’s heroine. I don’t want to work only in artistic films. I am also acting in full-fledged commercial projects. I am preparing myself for the future. I have struggled for seven years and will continue this struggle until the last day of my life because I want everyone to know me as a heroine,” she said.
Bhabna acknowledged that focusing on films has also caused her financial losses.
Unlike television dramas, where actors are generally paid after each day’s shoot, film work does not provide regular daily income.
“Nowadays, no one works regularly in films. Still, I am able to remain in the field I love. Alongside cinema, I want to continue painting and writing,” she said.
Bhabna said she had wanted to work in films since childhood.
Even after beginning her television career and playing lead roles in dramas, she remained drawn to cinema.
“After growing up, I realised I should do what I truly like. Now I want to travel around the country and abroad with my films,” she said.
Earlier this year, Bhabna attended the Moscow International Film Festival with King in the Land of the Princesses.
She is also scheduled to take Japito Jibon to a film festival in Canada soon.
