India bids a final farewell to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle today, as her body was cremated in Mumbai with full state honours.
Her body was brought to her residence in Lower Parel on Sunday evening, where arrangements have been made for admirers and members of the public to pay their last respects from late morning until the afternoon. The funeral took place at 4:00 pm.
Family members earlier confirmed that the singer had been undergoing treatment at Breach Candy Hospital after being admitted on Saturday night. According to statements shared by her granddaughter, she had been suffering from a chest infection and extreme fatigue in the days leading up to her death.
Asha Bhosle, whose voice became synonymous with Indian cinema across decades, is believed to have died following multiple organ complications. Her passing has prompted an outpouring of grief across the film and music industries.
Tributes have continued to arrive from leading figures in Indian cinema, including Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Shreya Ghoshal, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal and Kamal Haasan, among others, all acknowledging her enduring influence on generations of artists and listeners.
