A group of unidentified miscreants set fire to a branch of Grameen Bank in Chandura area of Bijoynagar upazila, Brahmanbaria, early Wednesday morning, damaging furniture and important documents.
However, officials confirmed that the bank’s vault, containing cash, remained unharmed.
The incident occurred at the Chandura branch of Grameen Bank around 2am on Wednesday.
Branch Manager Md Kalim Uddin said that petrol was poured from outside the building before the attackers set the bank ablaze. “The night guard noticed the fire and immediately alerted us. With the help of local residents, the fire was brought under control,” he said, adding that the Fire Service later arrived and completely extinguished the flames.

The branch manager also said that a written complaint will be filed with the local police station regarding the incident.
Bijoynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam confirmed visiting the scene. “We are investigating to identify those responsible for the arson,” he said.
Police are continuing their investigation into the motive and those involved in the attack.
