The Bangladesh Army recovered a large cache of weapons, including cocktails, during a raid in Madaripur early Saturday.
No arrests were made as the criminals fled the scene upon sensing the presence of army personnel.
The operation was carried out around 3am at Baro Meher village under Mostafapur union of Madaripur Sadar upazila.
According to the army, the operation was launched following intelligence that one Idris Hawladar had stockpiled sharp weapons and explosives in his garden and surrounding areas of his residence in Baro Meher village, with the intention of carrying out sabotage.
Sensing the army’s presence, Idris Hawladar and his associates fled the area. Subsequent searches around his house led to the recovery of 40 cocktails and sharp weapons.
Later, the recovered items were handed over to Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station, and the army said legal action would be taken against the absconding accused.
Such operations will continue regularly to prevent any acts of sabotage ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election. Patrols on roads and highways have also been intensified, the army said.
