Nahid Islam alleged that a level playing field has yet to be ensured for the upcoming national election.
He is the convener of National Citizen Party (NCP) and Jamaat alliance candidate for Dhaka-11 constituency.
Speaking during election campaign at various spots in the Badda-Satarkul area in the morning, the NCP leader claimed that activists of the Jamaat alliance are being subjected to intimidation ahead of the polls.
He stated that while there is no direct obstruction to his campaigning, a climate of fear is being deliberately created to prevent people from attending polling centres, though he maintained that these attempts would not succeed.
Nahid further accused the Election Commission of failing to maintain neutrality towards the Jamaat alliance.
He highlighted that he had been served with a show-cause notice for campaigning in favour of a referendum, whereas no action was taken against other candidates for promoting their respective political parties.
Regarding the significance of the polls, Nahid remarked that the election would mark the end of extortionists, terrorists, and land grabbers.
He noted that while the public expected such activities to cease after 5 August, they have persisted in some instances. He identified the election day on 12 February as the final day for extortionists.
Addressing local residents, he assured voters that he would work to address the area’s crises if elected, describing the upcoming vote as a historic election for building a new Bangladesh with new electoral dynamics.
He also mentioned that the NCP joined the Jamaat-led alliance to protect the July Generation and noted that the struggle of Khaleda Zia for restoring democracy would be remembered forever.
The NCP convener urged the electorate to cast their ballots freely and after careful consideration, as the election will determine the fate of the country.
He advised voters not to be influenced by money, benefits, or false promises and to choose a deserving candidate capable of bringing change. During his campaign, Nahid called on the public to vote for the Shapla Kali symbol and to cast a Yes vote in the referendum.
