A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax records of former reserved women’s seat MP Syeda Rubina Akter and her husband Mosharraf Hossain Sardar over allegations of corruption.
On Sunday, Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court, Md Sabbir Faiz, issued the orders following separate applications by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Bench assistant of the concerned court Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the ruling.
ACC Deputy Director Rashedul Islam represented the commission in the matter.
According to ACC, Rubina Akter allegedly acquired and retained assets worth Tk1.57 crore through corrupt means while serving as a parliamentarian.
The commission’s investigation also covers abnormal transactions worth Tk139.36 crore in her name and related bank accounts.
ACC said it was necessary to seize her income tax returns and relevant documents from the start of her tenure to the latest assessment year.
Regarding her husband, Mosharraf Hossain Sardar, ACC said he and Rubina allegedly acquired and controlled assets worth Tk1.26 crore with mutual assistance.
His bank accounts also show abnormal transactions amounting to Tk18.44 crore, which require seizure for proper investigation, the commission added.
The court orders aim to ensure a thorough probe into the couple’s financial dealings and irregularities.
