Khan Muhammad Morsalin, joint chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has resigned from the party.
He confirmed the decision in a Facebook post on Thursday. In the post, Morsalin wrote that he had resigned from the NCP but not from politics, adding, “See you again on the streets.”
Morsalin said he had served as a central joint chief coordinator of the party. He also worked with the party’s media cell, publicity and publication wing.
More recently, he briefly served as secretary of the party’s election-time media sub-committee. From Thursday, he stepped down from all posts and responsibilities within the NCP.
In a video message, Morsalin explained the reasons behind his resignation. He said that after the 2024 mass uprising, when the NCP spoke of a new political settlement, he felt their struggles were aligned and joined the party with that belief.
However, he later felt that the party failed to politically empower the core forces of the uprising, including workers, students and, in particular, women.
He said the women who risked their lives and stood on the streets during the movement had now become marginalised.
Morsalin also criticised the party’s position on the July declaration and charter, saying the NCP failed to take a firm stand. He said the party weakened because it could not transform mass power into a political force and was instead forced into compromises with stakeholders of the old political order.
“I believe the current path of the NCP and the path of mass democratic politics have now diverged,” he said.
Referring to both 1971 and 2024, Morsalin said attempts were under way to re-establish the old political order by sidelining the sacrifices of ordinary people, and he could not agree with that approach.
