Trouble has reportedly been brewing almost daily for the past six days in Malgram Alamat Member Para in Dinajpur, with the latest allegation involving the killing of pond fish using gas tablets.
According to deed records, the owners of the pond are the four sons – Mohammad Mofiz Ali, Mohammad Abdul Faruk, Mohammad Piar Ali, and Md Khomir Uddin – along with the late Moksed Ali, all sons of the late Hakimuddin and residents of Alamat Member Para.
Local residents have alleged that Md Abdul Khalek, whose house is situated right next to the pond, has been the mastermind issuing the orders behind all these occurrences. Acting on the ground under his directives were Md Mominul and Md Torab Ali.
Earlier, on 18 October, when the victim’s daughter-in-law, Nasrin Akter, 19, went to catch fish in the pond, she was assaulted by her hair and subsequently struck on the head with a bamboo stick.
She is currently undergoing medical treatment after being referred from Kaharole Hospital to Dinajpur Medical.
In the aftermath of that assault, gas tablets were administered into the pond on Friday and Saturday, killing approximately 45 maunds of fish and causing a financial loss of Tk2.70 lakh.
No. 5 Sundarpur UP Chairman Manik said he had heard about the incident but had not yet been able to visit the spot.
SI Abdul Hamid of Kaharole Police Station in Dinajpur said necessary legal action would be taken following an investigation into the complaint.
