The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has set 4 January next year as the deadline for submitting an investigation report in a crimes against humanity case against former Chattogram-6 lawmaker ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury and former army officer Ziaul Ahsan over the alleged killing of a man following his enforced disappearance.
The tribunal passed the order on Sunday.
According to prosecution sources, Syed Abu Zafar, former chairman of Bagoan Union Parishad in Raozan, Chattogram, was picked up in 2010 and later killed.
The prosecution brought crimes against humanity charges against Fazle Karim Chowdhury and Ziaul Ahsan over the incident.
Following a prosecution petition, both were shown arrested in the case on 19 April.
Meanwhile, Fazle Karim Chowdhury is facing trial in another crimes against humanity case over the killings of several people, including Chhatra Dal leader Wasim, in Chattogram during the July-August mass uprising. He has already been arrested in that case.
Ziaul Ahsan is also in custody in a separate case over enforced disappearances and killings during the Awami League government’s tenure. Witness testimony is already underway in that case.
