Renowned Bengali musician and filmmaker Anjan Dutt has marked the approach of his 73rd birthday by releasing his long-awaited autobiography, ‘Anjan Niye’, offering readers a reflective look at his life beyond the stage and screen.
Published by Dey’s Publishing, the book was launched on January 15 at Oxford Bookstore on Park Street, Kolkata, during an event titled ‘Bahatture Anjan’. Actor and filmmaker Aparna Sen unveiled the autobiography at the ceremony.
Known primarily for his influence on modern Bengali music, Dutt has also built a parallel career as an actor, director and writer. While he has often shared fragments of his life through columns and interviews, this book represents his first attempt to document his journey in a cohesive, personal narrative.
Speaking at the launch, Dutt said the decision to write his memoir came from a sense of urgency as he enters his 73rd year. He noted that timing mattered, as he wanted to preserve clarity, honesty and humour while recounting his experiences. According to Dutt, the book reflects truths he felt ready to acknowledge at this stage of his life.
Anjan Niye also explores lesser-known chapters of his career, including his relationships with major cultural figures such as Mrinal Sen and Satyajit Ray, as well as his experiences working abroad, particularly in Germany. Dutt suggested that these stories reveal aspects of his identity that have remained largely hidden from the public.
With this release, Anjan Dutt adds a literary milestone to his multifaceted career, inviting readers to engage with the personal history of one of Bengal’s most influential cultural voices.
