Actress Iffat Ara Tithi, one of the accused in the case filed over the suicide of actor Zaher Alvi’s wife, Afra Ibnath Khan Iqra, has returned to Bangladesh from Nepal. She confirmed the news to the media on Tuesday, March 3.
Addressing her return, Tithi said there had been rumours that Alvi had not visited his wife before her death and was instead in Nepal with his ‘girlfriend’, claims she denied. “This is completely untrue. I returned home yesterday (March 2) with the entire team,” she stated.
Speaking about the day of Iqra’s death, Tithi explained that many attempts were made to book tickets on that day, but none were available. “The entire team returned home the following day after arranging tickets,” she added.
Rumours have circulated in the showbiz circle for some time that Alvi and Tithi were in a romantic relationship. Following Iqra’s death, her close friends alleged that she had suffered a mental breakdown due to the supposed affair, which they claim contributed to her suicide.
Responding to these claims, Tithi clarified, “I have been working with Alvi for a long time. Just as colleagues develop a good friendship in any workplace, we have a close professional friendship. I have said in many interviews before that Alvi is my closest friend in the industry.”
Iqra’s body was discovered at her residence in Mirpur DOHS last Saturday, February 28, and was later pronounced dead at Kurmitola General Hospital.
Iqra’s father has filed a case at Dhaka’s Pallabi Police Station against Zaher Alvi, her mother and Tithi, alleging abetment of suicide.
