A member of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF-Democratic) was arrested with firearms in Lama upazila, Bandarban, early Tuesday.
Prenpong Mro, 25, a resident of Dhekichra Para in Sarai Union, was initially detained by locals in Merenta Bazar and handed over to the army, who later handed him over to the Lama Police.
Lama Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahjahan Kamal confirmed that Prenpong Mro was formally handed over to police by army personnel on Tuesday afternoon.
A case under the Arms Act is being filed against him.
According to local sources, Prenpong Mro had been allegedly using firearms to intimidate residents and extort money from various remote areas within Lama upazila.
Authorities said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
