The Advisory Council has expressed concern over the growing division among political parties regarding the upcoming referendum and urged them to reach a consensus through dialogue to resolve the issue.
The matter was discussed at a special meeting of the Advisory Council convened by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Monday morning.
After the meeting, interim government Law Adviser Asif Nazrul briefed reporters.
He said the meeting agreed that an urgent decision should be made based on the Consensus Commission’s proposal regarding when and on what issue the referendum would be held, and what actions should be taken over the differing opinions mentioned in the July Charter.
“The council has urged political parties to hold discussions among themselves and, if possible, give a unified guideline to the government within a week,” Asif Nazrul said.
He added that the meeting reaffirmed the plan to hold the national election in February next year. “Under the current circumstances, there is no scope for delay, and everyone should keep that in mind,” he said.
