A controversy has emerged following allegations of on-set misconduct between actresses Tanjin Tisha and Samia Athoi during the filming of a drama in Manikganj. The matter came to public attention after Athoi addressed it in a Facebook Live session, sparking widespread discussion on social media.
In response, the Actors’ Association of Bangladesh released a statement on Wednesday (March 4). The organisation said that if any complication or disagreement arises between members, it is against its code of conduct to publicise the matter on social media or in the press without first informing the association.
The statement emphasised that such disputes should be resolved through mutual discussion and established institutional processes. It warned that presenting incidents unilaterally online could damage the image of the professional community and create unnecessary confusion and negativity.
The association added that disciplinary action may be taken against any member found to have violated its code of conduct. It stressed that disputes should be addressed through organisational procedures rather than through what it described as a “trial” in the court of public opinion.
On Tuesday (March3), Athoi alleged during her Facebook Live that a scripted slap scene escalated beyond what had been agreed. According to her, the scene required her to slap Tisha lightly, as directed. She claimed that Tisha subsequently struck her multiple times in return, in front of the unit.
Tanjin Tisha has offered a different account. She stated that the actions were in line with her character, who has special needs and displays aggressive behaviour in the story. Tisha maintained that her reaction was part of the scene’s requirements and said the context would become clear once the drama is released.
Director Rafat Majumder confirmed that the slap scene was included in the script and that both actors were expected to strike each other lightly. He suggested the disagreement stemmed from differing perceptions about the force used.
The drama also features Shahiduzzaman Selim, Momena Chowdhury and Mir Rabbi. It remains to be seen whether the matter will be resolved through formal discussions between the parties involved.
