Veteran Bangladeshi actor Abdul Hannan Shelly has revealed details of his ongoing health struggles in a recent conversation with the media, as concerns continue to grow over his deteriorating condition.
Once a familiar face in Bangladesh’s film and television industry, Hannan Shelly is now battling a prolonged illness that has left him largely confined to bed. According to the actor, his physical condition has worsened to the point where even standing normally has become difficult.
Speaking about his current circumstances, Shelly said that various inaccurate and misleading reports about his health have been circulating.
He noted that many fellow artistes have been checking on him, although not everyone has been able to visit in person due to distance and other circumstances. He added that several people from his local area had come to see him.
Regarding his treatment, Shelly said he consulted doctors in India about a month ago. He was prescribed a three-month course of medication and is currently taking the medicines regularly.
Alongside his health challenges, the actor is also facing financial difficulties. Shelly said he currently has no personal source of income and that his household expenses are being met through the earnings of his wife, who works as a teacher.
The veteran actor also spoke about the emotional toll of his prolonged confinement at home.
According to Shelly, loneliness has become one of the most difficult aspects of his situation. He said it brings him comfort when people call to check on him or spend time talking with him.
Meanwhile, Actors Equity Bangladesh General Secretary Rashed Mamun Apu said the organisation provided financial assistance to Shelly approximately two months ago. He added that the actor’s file had also been submitted to the Artists Welfare Fund for additional support.
Apu said no response has yet been received from the relevant fund, but the matter is being monitored regularly. He added that the organisation continues to keep track of Shelly’s physical condition.
Abdul Hannan Shelly is a recognised figure in Bangladesh’s film and television industry. His notable works include ‘Kittonkhola’, ‘The Last Thakur’ and the OTT production ‘Dui Diner Duniya’.
Following reports of his illness, colleagues and admirers have expressed concern on social media and wished him a speedy recovery.
