At the end of last year, three popular television drama actresses: Tanjin Tisha, Mumtahina Chowdhury Toya and Safa Kabir, made headlines over alleged involvement in drug cases.
Musician Sunidhi Naik’s name was also mentioned. The reports claimed they regularly obtained drugs through a special WhatsApp group. Safa Kabir, however, remained silent and stayed off social media for a long time. Recently, Safa spoke about the ordeal for the first time on Rumman Rashid Khan’s ‘Behind the Frame’ podcast.
“I was completely shocked when I saw the news. I thought, ‘What is going on?’ No one has given any updates since then, but my career has suffered greatly,” she said. “They made such news about three or four media girls without thinking about the impact on our lives.”
Safa emphasized that accusing someone without evidence is as harmful as spreading unverified information on social media. “We share things in a hurry without thinking about the consequences. We have families and careers. Does anyone consider that? Such news even makes parents worry about their children’s safety and career choices. People should think twice before sharing anything.”
The news has affected her professional life as well. “The news came out on Thursday and I was supposed to sign a brand contract on Sunday. The brand canceled it. I tried to explain that I had no involvement, but how could I prove it? Even senior artists avoided working with me to steer clear of controversy. Social media was a storm at that time,” she recalled.
Thankfully, some close friends from showbiz supported her during the crisis. “Tauseef Mahbub said he would work with me, Jovan helped a lot and Siam was there as mental support. These friends are amazing. Many say there’s no real friendship in the media but I’ve found some truly good friends here,” she added.
