Khadijatul Kubra, a Jagannath University student who spent 15 months in jail under the Awami League regime in a cyber security case, has announced her intention to contest in the upcoming Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (Jnucsu) elections.
The student from the Department of Political Science confirmed the media recently.
Khadijatul said she plans to run for the position of either General Secretary (GS) or Assistant General Secretary (AGS). However, she has not yet decided which panel she will join, adding that she will make the decision public soon.
A student of the 2019–20 academic session in the Political Science department, Khadijatul was accused in two separate cases filed with Kalabagan and New Market police stations in October 2020.
The cases alleged that she had spread statements online against the then Awami League government and tarnished the country’s image. She remained in prison for nearly 15 months in connection with the charges.
