Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police AKM Ehsanullah has reportedly gone missing under mysterious circumstances from the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarada, Charghat upazila of Rajshahi, since Wednesday morning.
According to police sources, Ehsanullah, a 20th BCS batch officer serving as DIG (Administration and Logistics) at the academy, has been under investigation by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) for alleged involvement in extrajudicial killings and other criminal activities.
Academy officials said the senior officer submitted a leave application on Thursday, a day after his disappearance, but it was not approved.
Confirming the matter, Police Superintendent (Admin and Logistics) Saiful Islam said, “He has been absent from duty since Wednesday morning. Although he submitted a leave application the next day, it was not sanctioned.”
Multiple sources within the academy claimed that a police team from Dhaka arrived at the premises on Wednesday to arrest DIG Ehsanullah. However, he allegedly fled the area on a motorcycle before they could detain him.
An officer requesting anonymity said, “I’ve heard he has been missing for two days, but I have no details about the ICT case. The Tribunal has its own investigation team that operates independently.”
