In Patharghata, Barguna, four people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours. The Upazila Health Complex confirmed this information on Saturday.

The deceased are: Shukla Dhali (13), Hasan (25), Siddiq Molla (45), and Nurjahan Begum (75).

Among them, Siddiq Molla and Nurjahan Begum died while undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex; Hasan died on the way to Barisal for advanced treatment; and Shukla Dhali died while receiving treatment at home.

The Health Complex reported that after continuous rain over the past week, the emergence of sunlight has led to an increase in dengue outbreaks in the area. As a result, fever patients are crowding the hospital every day.

Residential Medical Officer Rakhal Bishwas Oporup stated, “The dengue outbreak began as soon as the rain subsided. The pressure of patients has increased significantly. We are trying our best, but the situation is becoming more complicated day by day.”

Civil Surgeon Abul Fattah said, “We have confirmed reports of three deaths. Siddiq Molla, who passed away, was referred to Barisal for advanced treatment, but his family could not go due to financial constraints.”

He added, “We are struggling to control dengue. The situation in Patharghata is particularly severe. Nevertheless, we are continuing our utmost efforts.”

According to data from the District Civil Surgeon’s Office, from January this year to now, 6,924 people in the district have been infected with dengue. In the last 24 hours, 45 new cases have been reported. Currently, 135 patients are hospitalized: 91 at Barguna General Hospital, 11 in Patharghata, 10 in Taltali, 12 in Bamna, eight in Betagi, and three in Amtali.

So far this year, at least 40 people in the district have died from dengue.
