Beloved in both Bengals, actress Jaya Ahsan is treating fans to a double surprise. Two of her films are set for release this month, one in cinemas and the other on an OTT platform.
Her Bangladesh-Iran co-production ‘Fereshte’, directed by Iranian filmmaker Murtaza Atash Zamzam, is slated for a theatrical release soon. Though the date is yet to be confirmed, Lion Cinemas and Star Cineplex have hinted at a September premiere.
The film portrays the struggles of a disadvantaged family and stars Jaya alongside Suman Faruk, Rikita Nandini Shimu, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Shahed Ali, Shaheen Mridha and child artiste Sathi.
Co-produced by Jaya, Fereshte premiered at the Dhaka International Film Festival and has already earned multiple international awards.
Meanwhile, OTT platform Chorki will stream ‘Jaya Aar Sharmin’ this month. Directed by Piplu R Khan, the film was originally released in cinemas on May 16. It explores the evolving bond between two women during the pandemic: Jaya, playing herself and Sharmin (Mohsina Akhtar), whose lives drift apart despite their closeness. Jaya also co-produced this project.
The actress has been on a strong run this year, balancing films and streaming projects across Bangladesh and Kolkata. After debuting in her first web series Jimmi in March, she went on to star in several theatrical releases, including ‘Putul Nacher Itikatha’ in West Bengal last month.
With Fereshte headed to theaters and Jaya Aur Sharmin arriving on OTT, Jaya continues to expand her horizons as both actor and producer, proving herself a powerful presence on screens big and small.
