BRAC University and BSRM Group of Companies Wednesday launched the BSRM School of Engineering at the university’s Merul Badda campus, marking a landmark partnership between academia and industry with a focus on shaping a sustainable future.
Themed “Shaping Tomorrow: Innovation for Sustainability”, the launch event unveiled the school’s official logo and website, symbolising a shared commitment to transforming engineering education in Bangladesh. The initiative blends BSRM’s legacy of social responsibility with BRAC University’s values of inclusive, ethical, and purpose-driven learning, said a press release.
“This partnership is more than a collaboration—it’s a movement to redefine engineering with ethics, innovation, and human dignity at the centre,” said Tamara Hasan Abed, Chairperson of BRAC University’s Board of Trustees.
“We are building a place where future engineers are empowered to lead change for a better tomorrow.”
The school is already driving forward key initiatives such as funding advanced research, establishing high-tech laboratories, and offering scholarships for financially disadvantaged yet meritorious students. It reflects the belief of BRAC’s late founder, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, in education as a force for inclusive development.
Alihussain Akberali, FCA, Chairman of BSRM, emphasised the private sector’s role in nation-building. “Don’t look outside when your country needs you inside,” he told students.
“Your ideas, energy, and skills must serve Bangladesh. Build a legacy here.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar praised the initiative as an embodiment of BRAC’s educational vision and BSRM’s dedication to societal well-being. “This partnership ensures that academic knowledge and industrial experience are harmonized and shared globally,” he said.
The launch event included testimonials from students, alumni, and faculty, a prize ceremony for a t-shirt design competition, and a cultural performance celebrating the school’s mission. Professor Arshad M. Chowdhury, Dean of the new school, had the opening remarks.
The BSRM School of Engineering stands as a beacon of hope and a blueprint for future-ready, socially responsible engineering education in the Global South, the release said.
