Three prisoners of Dhaka Central Jail, including two convicts, died on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Abul Bashar, 58, an under‑trial prisoner; and convicts Abdul Kaiyum, 62, and Shahadat Hossain, 48.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in‑charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp, said Bashar and Kaiyum fell ill inside the prison in the morning. Guards took Bashar to the hospital around 7:30am and Kaiyum around 9am, where doctors declared them dead.
Their bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Shahadat died around 8:45am while undergoing treatment at the DMCH.
Prison sources said he had been admitted to ward 502 of the hospital on 28 August.
Bashar was from Kutiya village under Kachua in Chandpur while Kaiyum from Paduar Bazar under Chauddagram in Cumilla and Shahadat lived in Barobag area of Dhaka’s Mirpur‑2.
