Bangladesh national team pacer Taskin Ahmed has denied allegations of assault and issuing threats after a general diary (GD) was filed against him at Mirpur Model Police Station. The complaint, submitted by Sifatur Rahman Sourav, alleges that the incident occurred on Sunday night in front of Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur-1. Sourav is reportedly a childhood friend of Taskin.
However, Taskin has strongly refuted the claims. Speaking to a national media outlet, the right-arm fast bowler said the allegations were completely false and that certain individuals were trying to embarrass him by filing a fake GD. “The allegation against me is entirely untrue,” he said. “I’ve been busy shifting houses. I didn’t assault anyone. They’re trying to cause me embarrassment by filing a false GD.”
Taskin further claimed that the complaint was a retaliatory move after he had contacted the police regarding an incident involving one of his own friends. “I have a friend named Rosi, and they assaulted him,” Taskin explained. “So I called the Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station for assistance. Police went looking for them in Mohammadpur, and now they’ve filed this GD against me out of retaliation.”
Initially, police sources confirmed that the complaint against Taskin had been officially accepted and that a preliminary investigation was already underway. However, later, Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Model Police Station, Sajjad Rumen, clarified that the matter was being treated as a formal complaint rather than a GD and was under scrutiny. He added that further action would depend on the findings of the investigation.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also taken note of the incident. On Monday, BCB Media Committee Chairman Iftekhar Rahman Mithu told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur that the board would launch a separate investigation. “I saw the news in the morning,” Mithu said. “Our Aminul Islam Bulbul and Fahim Bhai have also seen it. An investigation is already underway. If this has happened, it’s very unfortunate. Icon players should not be involved in such matters. I don’t want to comment further until the facts are clear.”
