Vedika Pinto has defended the decision to alter ‘Musafir Cafe’s’ ending, saying the web series needed a different conclusion to remain consistent with its updated portrayal of Sudha.
The Netflix adaptation differs from the 2016 novel, in which Sudha returns with Chander’s eight-year-old child. Pinto, who plays Sudha, said the series took a more contemporary approach and introduced a stronger female perspective.
“The way we portrayed Sudha, it would not make sense for her to have a child,” Pinto told the Free Press Journal, arguing that such an ending would contradict everything her character stood for.
She acknowledged that the change divided viewers and readers but said audiences ultimately have the freedom to interpret characters differently.
‘Musafir Cafe’ has been renewed for a second season. Pinto said she has several projects under discussion but has not formally signed her next one.
The first season, released in July, also starred Vikrant Massey and Mahima Makwana.
