Fifty-one candidates recommended for the post of primary school assistant teacher have been observing a hunger strike for the second consecutive day in Jamalpur, demanding their appointment letters despite being finally selected for recruitment.
The candidates continued their demonstration by staging a sit-in in front of the District Primary Education Office from 10:30am on Wednesday.
According to the protesting candidates, 136 applicants were finally recommended for recruitment as primary assistant teachers in Jamalpur district. Of them, 84 candidates received appointment letters in the first phase, while another candidate was issued a letter last Monday.
However, the remaining 51 candidates have not yet received their appointment letters despite being selected from the same panel. They have been staying in front of the district education office since Tuesday, seeking a solution to the issue.
Sohel Alam, one of the candidates awaiting appointment, said he completed his Honours and Master’s degrees from Jahangirnagar University and was finally recommended after appearing in the 2025 teacher recruitment examination.
“Despite a long wait, we are still not receiving our appointment letters. Fifty-one qualified candidates like us are now spending their days in uncertainty,” he said.
Assistant District Primary Education
