A new chapter has opened for film appreciation and healthy cultural activities in the tourist city of Cox’s Bazar, with the Cox’s Bazar Film Society receiving official registration from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The registration certificate was handed over to the organisation’s president, Mohammad Sahed, by the ministry’s Film Certification Board on Monday, 31 August.
The society has been registered under number FC-09.
Those associated with the organisation consider the government registration an important achievement and recognition.
It is expected to create greater opportunities to promote quality film culture, screen acclaimed films, organise film festivals and provide skills development opportunities for young filmmakers in Cox’s Bazar in a more structured manner.
President Mohammad Sahed said one of the organisation’s key objectives is to develop film culture in Cox’s Bazar while upholding the core spirit of Bangladesh’s film society movement.
The organisation also plans to encourage local young people to engage in filmmaking, acting, screenwriting, directing and other creative activities related to cinema.
“Receiving registration from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is a matter of great joy and pride for Cox’s Bazar Film Society. This recognition has increased our responsibilities. We will sincerely work to involve the young generation of Cox’s Bazar in healthy and creative film activities and contribute to the development of film culture,” Sahed said.
Singer Ariana Ifti, joint general secretary of the organisation, said Cox’s Bazar has enormous potential not only because of its world-famous beach but also because of its artistic and creative community.
“Through filmmaking, Cox’s Bazar Film Society will work to present the history, heritage, culture and struggles of the people of this region to audiences at home and abroad,” she said.
According to the organisation’s leaders, its future plans include screening quality local and international films, organising film festivals, seminars and workshops, arranging film discussions, producing short films and providing training for emerging filmmakers.
Cultural figures in Cox’s Bazar believe the government registration will help expand film activities in the district and play an important role in nurturing the creative talents of the younger generation.
Members of the society, film enthusiasts and cultural figures have congratulated Cox’s Bazar Film Society on receiving the registration and wished the organisation success in its future activities.
With the registration of Cox’s Bazar Film Society, the district now has two government-registered film organisations: Cox’s Bazar Film Club and Cox’s Bazar Film Society.
