Bengali actress Rukmini Maitra may be set to make a major move in Bollywood, with reports suggesting she is being considered for the lead role opposite Akshay Kumar in the upcoming sci-fi action thriller Samuk.

Akshay is currently shooting the film in the United Kingdom.

The project is being produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Kanishk Varma, with its release reportedly planned for 2027.

If Rukmini is officially confirmed as the female lead, the role could become a significant breakthrough in her Hindi-film career.

Major Bollywood stars have frequently been paired with actresses from the South Indian film industries, but Rukmini’s potential casting would mark an important opportunity for a Bengali actress.

Despite establishing herself in Bengali cinema, Rukmini has continued to pursue opportunities in Bollywood.

She made her Hindi-film debut in 2021 with Sanak, opposite Vidyut Jammwal.

She later made a special appearance in Jammwal’s Crakk in 2023.

Rukmini moved to Mumbai more than a year ago to explore further opportunities in the Hindi film industry.

In the meantime, she continued working in Bengali cinema.

Her recent projects include Binodiini, based on the life of legendary Bengali theatre actor Binodini Dasi, and Haati Haati Paa Paa.

She will next be seen in Bengal in Bike Ambulance Dada, in which she stars opposite actor Dev.

Samuk also marks another collaboration between Akshay Kumar and producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah.

The two have previously worked together on films including Aankhen, Waqt: The Race Against Time, Namastey London and Action Replayy.

Their most recent collaboration was Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty, which was released in 2014.

Reports further suggest that Shah has brought in Chris Peters, who worked as an art director on Avengers: Doomsday, for the new Bollywood project.

While the casting details have not yet been officially confirmed, Rukmini’s possible involvement has already generated interest among Bengali and Hindi-film audiences.
