Popular Bengali singer Nachiketa Chakraborty has sparked discussion online after a video showed him stopping a concert to object to a woman recording him on her mobile phone.
In the viral footage, Nachiketa politely asks the woman to put her phone away, saying he feels insulted by her repeated filming instead of listening to the music.
“Please put the phone away. You have come to listen to songs. I am requesting you with folded hands—please don’t do this. I feel insulted,” he says.
He also points out that many audience members had spent a significant amount of money to attend the concert and had come after making considerable efforts to hear him perform.
Following the video’s spread, many social media users supported the singer.
They argued that audiences now often spend concerts recording videos, taking selfies or livestreaming instead of enjoying the performance.
However, others disagreed, saying ticket holders should be free to record as long as they do not disturb the artist or fellow spectators.
Some also criticised Nachiketa’s reaction.
The incident has reignited debate over whether concertgoers should be allowed to use mobile phones during live performances and whether excessive recording takes away from the experience of attending a concert.
