Trawler capsizes in Cox’s Bazar; 2 dead

Two fishermen died and two others went missing after a fishing trawler capsized in a storm in the Bay of Bengal near Moheshkhali’s coast in Cox’s Bazar early Thursday.

Four other fishermen were rescued following the accident, which occurred around 3am.

The deceased were identified as Foyez Ahmed, son of Moktal Hossain of Khondokarpara in Kutubjom Union, and Saiful Islam, son of Sohag Miah of Meheria Para under the same union. The missing fishermen are Nurul Alam and Muhib Ullah, also residents of Kutubjom Union.

Local fishermen said the trawler, FB Tahsin, owned by Faridul Alam of Kutubjom Union, set out Tuesday night with a group of fishermen. When the vessel reached west of the Sonadia Channel near Nazirartek coast early Thursday, it was caught in a sudden storm and capsized.

Nearby boats launched a rescue operation, recovering the bodies of Foyez and Saiful but failing to trace Nurul and Muhib.

Search operations at sea are continuing for the two missing men.

Md Abdus Sultan, officer‑in‑charge of Moheshkhali Police Station, confirmed the incident.
