Bengal Film Society, an organisation established with the aim of promoting, expanding and improving the quality of Bangla cinema, has received official recognition from the government.
The organisation has been registered with the Bangladesh Film Certification Board under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of Bangladesh.
The Bengal Film Society was formed following an application by filmmaker and cultural organiser Jibon Shahadat.
Lyricist and playwright Anurup Aich is serving as its president, while Jibon Shahadat is the general secretary.
Recently, Jibon Shahadat received the organisation’s registration certificate from Bangladesh Film Certification Board Vice Chairman Abdur Rahman.
The society has been registered under number FC-07/2026.
Speaking after receiving the certificate, Jibon Shahadat said the organisation aims to work for the promotion, development and improvement of Bangla cinema among Bangla-speaking communities in Bangladesh and around the world in accordance with the Bangladesh Film Societies Act 2011.
“Our responsibility has increased further with this registration. We are grateful to the concerned ministry and the Bangladesh Film Certification Board,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to Vice Chairman Abdur Rahman for encouraging film organisations to come under the registration framework and for helping simplify the registration process.
Representatives of Bengal Film Society said the registration would create greater opportunities to expand the organisation’s activities.
The society plans to undertake various initiatives in the future to support the development of Bangla cinema, strengthen coordination among filmmakers and film professionals, and promote film culture.
