The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has recently distributed food and non-food packages to 1,500 families affected by floods and landslides in Banshkhali Upazila of Chattogram, as part of a larger initiative targeting 10,000 families across disaster-hit areas of Bangladesh.
NGO Affairs Bureau Secretary and Director General Mohammad Zakaria attended the distribution programme as chief guest, said a press release on Tuesday.
UAE Embassy Foreign Aid Director Rashed Mohammed Nasser Almeili Aljabi said, “Standing beside people affected by disasters such as floods and landslides is our humanitarian responsibility. This assistance programme is being carried out to help address the urgent needs of affected families and ease some of the difficulties they are facing during this challenging time.”
Recent floods and landslides have damaged homes, livelihoods and access to basic necessities for many families across the country.
