Dhaka University has ranked 74th among 2,345 universities worldwide in family business research, securing a place in the global top 100 in the inaugural Family Business Research Index 2026 published by Germany’s WIFU Foundation.
The ranking, announced in a press release issued by the university’s Public Relations Office, assesses universities’ contributions to research on family businesses.
The index evaluates research publications recorded in OpenAlex between 2023 and 2025, considering both the volume of research output and the standing of the journals in which the papers appeared.
OpenAlex is a free, open-access global database of scholarly publications and related research information. According to the WIFU Foundation, papers published in unranked journals received zero points in the assessment.
Welcoming the recognition, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor ABM Obaidul Islam described the achievement as a matter of pride for institution.
He said securing a place among the world’s top 100 universities in family business research would encourage faculty members and researchers to pursue further academic work.
“We aim to elevate Dhaka University to a more prestigious position on the global stage by enhancing the quality of research, publishing research articles of international standard and generating new knowledge,” he said.
The vice-chancellor said the university would expand research opportunities and create a more supportive environment for researchers to strengthen its international standing.
Established in 2009 and headquartered in Witten, Germany, the WIFU Foundation is a non-profit organisation working on research, education and knowledge exchange involving family businesses, entrepreneurial families and their long-term development.
