A delegation of around 45 senior executives from 25 leading US industrial and business companies will visit Dhaka next week to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic ties between Bangladesh and the United States, Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Mahdi Amin said on Saturday.
The visit is expected to take place at the end of next week, marking an initial step towards attracting more US investment to Bangladesh, he said at a press briefing at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon.
The US business leaders will hold a series of meetings with officials from different ministries, government agencies and relevant stakeholders during their stay.
They are also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, according to the spokesperson.
Earlier on Saturday morning, US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Briefing reporters on the meeting, Mahdi Amin said the US side expressed confidence in the leadership of Bangladesh’s elected government and praised the country’s stability, democratic progress and policy measures taken by the government in recent months.
He said the discussions focused on deepening the Bangladesh-US relationship through stronger economic cooperation, including increasing investment, expanding trade, creating employment opportunities and encouraging greater participation of US companies in Bangladesh.
The two sides also discussed measures to boost exports and imports, provide policy support for investors and utilise Bangladesh’s economic potential, he added.
Mahdi Amin said the government aims to attract more foreign investment by highlighting Bangladesh’s democratic transition and economic opportunities. He expressed hope that the longstanding relationship between the two countries would move to a new level through increased trade and investment.
He said Bangladesh expects the United States to continue its role as a trusted partner and support the country’s economic journey.
“Through partnership, we want to move forward by utilising our existing multifaceted relations and opportunities,” he said.
Mahdi Amin also welcomed the US confidence in Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership, saying Bangladesh hopes Washington will continue to stand beside the country as a friendly partner.
The press briefing was attended by Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atikur Rahman Rumon, Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Rony and Assistant Press Secretary Nazmul Haque.
