Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has once again thanked the fans of Bangladesh for their love and support ahead of his team’s FIFA World Cup semifinal against England.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Scaloni was asked about the huge Argentina following in Bangladesh by Bangladeshi sports journalist Rana Abbas.
The World Cup winning coach said the support from a country so far away continues to surprise everyone in the Argentina camp.
“The people of Bangladesh amaze us every single time. A country so far from Argentina, yet your genuine love is truly extraordinary,” Scaloni said.
“Seeing people wearing the Argentina jersey in your country gives us a unique feeling. Our heartfelt gratitude to all of you. Thank you, thank you so much.”
This is not the first time Scaloni has spoken about Bangladesh. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, he also praised the passion of Bangladeshi supporters after Argentina went on to win the title.
The bond between Argentina and Bangladesh has grown stronger over the past few years. Millions of football fans across Bangladesh have followed the Albiceleste with great passion, especially during major tournaments.
Earlier in this World Cup, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez also shared a heartfelt message for Bangladeshi supporters.
“I love the fans. I’ve been there. I really love the country. I know how crazy they are for us. I had the experience to be there. I love their support. They’re Argentinians in some way. All my love to Bangladesh,” Martinez said.
Argentina will now look to reward that support with another strong performance as they face England for a place in the World Cup final.
A victory would send Scaloni’s side into a second straight World Cup final as they continue their bid to defend the title they won in Qatar four years ago.
