A group of HSC students demonstrating at Shahbagh on Wednesday evening announced a one-point demand for the resignation of the education minister, warning that they would resume road blockades from Thursday morning if the minister does not step down.
The announcement came at a press briefing held at Shahbagh around 7:30pm, following hours of protests in the capital.
Mahadi, a City College student and one of the protesters, said the demonstrators had given the education minister until 10pm on Wednesday to resign.
“If the education minister does not resign by 10pm tonight, we will return to the streets and enforce another road blockade from tomorrow morning,” he said.
Mahadi also rejected the students who had gone to the Secretariat for talks, claiming they did not represent the protesters gathered at Shahbagh.
He insisted that the demonstrations were non-political and had no central leadership or coordinators.
After the briefing, the protesters formally ended Wednesday’s programme but said they would resume demonstrations if their demand remains unmet.
