Mehidy Hasan Miraz impressed with both bat and ball, but Guyana Amazon Warriors suffered a six wicket defeat against Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League on Monday.
Guyana struggled with the bat at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. They were bowled out for only 99 in 18.1 overs.
Glenn Phillips was their top scorer with 24 runs. Miraz scored 18 from 24 balls with one four and one six.
Guyana lost their first wicket with 15 runs on the board. They then continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.
AM Ghazanfar caused most of the damage. He took three wickets in the same over to put Guyana under pressure.
Miraz and Phillips tried to rebuild the innings with a 23 run stand. However, they could not turn it into a bigger partnership.
Romario Shepherd added 22 runs later in the innings. Guyana still failed to reach three figures. Ghazanfar and Johann Layne took three wickets each for Barbados.
Barbados also had problems early in their chase. They lost an opener before Miraz came into the attack.
The Bangladesh all rounder gave away only three runs in his first over. He then bowled Quinton de Kock in his next over. Imran Tahir also struck as Barbados slipped to 36 for three.
Brandon King and Sadrack Descarte then took control of the chase. They added 41 runs from 30 balls to put Barbados back in a strong position.
Miraz returned to break the partnership. He dismissed Descarte for 32 from 20 balls to claim his second wicket. King stayed at the crease and guided Barbados towards the target alongside Kevlon Anderson. He remained unbeaten on 44 from 42 balls as Barbados reached 100 for four in 14.5 overs.
Miraz finished with two wickets for 25 runs from his four overs. His efforts with both bat and ball were not enough to prevent Guyana from suffering a six wicket defeat.
