TikTok is experiencing an unexpected wave of Bangladesh fever, driven by the viral track You Never Took Me to Bangladesh. The 49-second song, with its quirky lyrics, playful melody and countless remix videos, has become a global social media sensation.
The song, titled Bangladesh, was created by American musician Ian McConnell. Its central lyric, “You never took me to Bangladesh,” is accompanied by a series of humorous and deliberately absurd complaints, including never cooking sausages over a fire, never rubbing oil on someone’s body and even never poisoning an enemy’s drink. The unusual combination of random lyrics and catchy music has helped set the track apart.
The song gained widespread popularity after TikTok producer Prodpod released a remixed version. The remix spread rapidly across the platform, prompting thousands of content creators to use the audio in their own videos. It has since generated millions of views on TikTok.
The trend has also attracted several international celebrities. Swedish pop star Zara Larsson shared a dance video using the song, which has received millions of views. Singer Lizzo also posted herself singing the track, saying she could not get it out of her head.
