The newly elected executive committee of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association for the 2026–2028 term formally assumed office after taking the oath on Wednesday.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at 6:30pm at Floor-8 of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).
Outgoing president Misha Sawdagor administered the oath to the newly elected committee members, who officially took charge following the ceremony.
The association held its election on Friday at the BFDC premises. The results were announced early on Saturday after vote counting concluded.
Of the association’s 573 registered voters, 480 cast their ballots. Election officials declared 17 ballots invalid after the count.
According to the announced results, actor Shiba Sanu won the president’s post with 243 votes, defeating fight director Arman, who secured 173 votes. Joy Chowdhury was elected general secretary with 237 votes, while his rival Rumana Islam Mukti received 179 votes.
Following the announcement of the results, Shiba Sanu said earning the trust of fellow artistes by fulfilling his election pledges would be his greatest achievement. He also expressed his determination to set a positive example at the association.
Joy Chowdhury said their journey to the election had not been easy but that they achieved success with the love and support of the artistes. He also thanked everyone involved for helping create a constructive atmosphere throughout the election.
The new committee includes Ilias Kobra as vice-president, D A Tayeb as joint general secretary, Sony Rahman as organising secretary, MA Parvez Chowdhury Abir as international affairs secretary, Jacky Alamgir as office and publicity secretary, Maruf Akib as cultural and sports secretary, and Kamruzzaman Kamal as treasurer.
The executive committee members are Aliraj, Kabila, Kayes Arju, Jesmin, Nasrin, Farhad, Shipon Mitra, Raka, Chikon Ali, Shirin Shila and Sushanta.
With Tuesday’s oath-taking ceremony, the new leadership of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association officially began its 2026–2028 term.
