Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Beijing on Friday afternoon for home, concluding his official visit to China and wrapping up his maiden two-nation tour covering Malaysia.
A China Southern Airlines flight carrying the prime minister, his wife Zubaida Rahman, and members of his entourage departed Beijing Daxing International Airport at 5:15pm local time, said Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.
Earlier in the day, the prime minister held a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People.
Before that, Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China, met the prime minister at the same venue.
The prime minister arrived at the Great Hall of the People around 9:30am after paying tribute at Tiananmen Square earlier in the morning.
He paid homage at the Monument to the People’s Heroes by laying a special red-green wreath. The national anthems of Bangladesh and China were played during the ceremony, followed by the sounding of the Last Post.
The prime minister stood in solemn silence for a few moments as a mark of respect to the memory of Chinese revolutionary martyrs.
On his arrival at Tiananmen Square around 9:10am local time, a smartly turned-out contingent of the Chinese Armed Forces accorded him a state salute.
During the visit, Prime Minister Rahman also toured the Museum of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which features permanent exhibitions on the party’s history. Accompanied by his wife and delegation members, he visited various galleries and experienced an immersive audio-visual presentation.
At the end of the visit, he signed the visitors’ book.
The prime minister began his first official foreign tour on 21 June with a visit to Malaysia.
He later travelled to Dalian on Monday night to attend the World Economic Forum’s Summer Davos 2026, participating in several events over two days before arriving in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon.
