BRAC received Tk110 crore in dividend proceeds from BRAC Bank for the 2025 financial year, underscoring the long-standing relationship between the lender and Bangladesh’s largest development organisation and highlighting a model in which commercial returns are channelled into social development initiatives.

The dividend distribution was marked at an event titled “BRAC Family – For the People, For the Country” held in Dhaka on June 18, where leaders of the two organisations reaffirmed their shared commitment to Bangladesh’s socioeconomic development, according to a press release.

BRAC Bank declared a 30 percent dividend for 2025, comprising 15 percent cash and 15 percent stock. As the bank’s largest shareholder, BRAC received Tk110 crore as its share of the distribution.

The event highlighted what both organisations described as a pioneering approach in which returns generated through mission-aligned commercial investments help support and expand BRAC’s development programmes across Bangladesh.

Established with a mandate to operate as both a profitable and socially responsible financial institution, BRAC Bank said its association with BRAC has enabled it to contribute to the country’s economic and social development while maintaining commercial sustainability.

“The true measure of success is not only how value is created, but how that value is shared,” said Meheriar M Hasan, Chairperson of BRAC Bank.

“As our largest shareholder, BRAC reinvests the dividends it receives from BRAC Bank into programmes that improve lives across Bangladesh. It is a powerful demonstration of finance serving a greater purpose — where commercial success ultimately translates into social progress.”

Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BRAC Bank, said the dividend handover represented more than a financial transaction.

“Today’s dividend handover symbolises far more than a financial distribution. It reflects a unique partnership where sustainable business performance directly contributes to improving lives through education, healthcare, livelihoods, financial inclusion and climate resilience,” he said.

Khan added that the link between the bank’s financial performance and social impact reinforced the values-based banking philosophy envisioned by BRAC founder Sir Fazle Hasan Abed.

Receiving the dividend on behalf of BRAC, Executive Director Asif Saleh said the partnership demonstrated how sustainable business performance could support long-term social progress.

“BRAC Bank’s success helps strengthen BRAC’s work in creating opportunities for marginalized people across Bangladesh,” Saleh said.

“As part of BRAC’s broader ecosystem of solutions, the bank plays an important role in generating the resources that enable us to invest in programmes and innovations that address complex development challenges.”

The event was attended by senior leaders from BRAC, bKash, BRAC University and other organisations affiliated with the BRAC network.

The dividend distribution comes as both institutions continue to emphasise a model that combines commercial performance with social impact, directing financial returns towards programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities across Bangladesh.
