“My own house, though raw, is a fine sight.” These evocative words from Rajanikanta Sen’s poem ‘Swadhinatar Sukh’ (The Joy of Independence) echo the diligent spirit of the Babui bird, which constructs its nest with immense hardship and care.
However, the once-ubiquitous sight of the Babui bird and its artistic, woven homes is increasingly disappearing from the rural landscapes of Bengal.

Despite their declining presence, a rare and picturesque glimpse of these birds crafting their nests was witnessed on Tuesday morning.
The scene, captured along a path in the Bhangura Shmashan Ghat area of Pabna, serves as a reminder of the natural craftsmanship still alive in the quiet corners of the countryside.
