Imagine going an entire month without washing your favourite t-shirt, even while wearing it every single day.
For residents of Bangladesh, accustomed to the relentless humidity and sweltering summer temperatures that make heavy sweating an unavoidable daily ordeal, such a proposition sounds like a distant dream.
Yet, an American startup claims to have turned this concept into reality by introducing the HercShirt V5.0, a garment it says can stay fresh for up to 30 days without a single wash.
According to the company, the t-shirt can be worn daily for a month without developing any unpleasant smell or requiring a wash.
While the claim might appear difficult to believe – particularly during hot summers when high temperatures cause people to sweat more than usual – the startup explains that the secret lies in advanced textile engineering.
Instead of relying on temporary surface treatments, the HercShirt V5.0 utilises a special technology incorporating seven distinct materials built directly into fabric fibres. These materials include copper, silver, zinc, gold, and volcanic ash, alongside two secret, undisclosed ingredients.
Each element plays a specific role in keeping the shirt odour-free. The copper within the fibres helps prevent the growth of odour-causing bacteria, whilst the zinc actively neutralises sulphur compounds produced by sweat. Meanwhile, the volcanic ash works to absorb moisture and shield the fabric from outside odours.
Aside from saving water and laundry effort, the startup points out that the HercShirt V5.0 lasts longer than ordinary t-shirts precisely because it requires far less washing.
For those looking to test the month-long freshness claim, the HercShirt V5.0 is priced at $79, which, at the current Bangladeshi rate, is around Tk9,000.
Shipping is due to begin in early November, with the shirt initially available in black. Navy blue, burgundy, and dark green versions planned for release at a later date.
